Example value
İstanbul
What people use it for
- 01Build regional territories for a field sales team.
- 02Comply with regional rules that differ by state, especially around outreach.
- 03Roll city-level numbers up to a region for reporting.
- 04Filter a country-wide export down to the regions you are licensed to sell in.
What it will not tell you
Many countries do not use this level at all, and several publish it inconsistently — a populated state column in one row and an empty one in the next is normal within the same country.
Questions about this field
- Why is state empty for European rows?
- Because most European address formats stop at city and postal code. The column stays empty rather than repeating the city.
- Is this the full name or an abbreviation?
- Whatever the listing published. Both forms appear across countries, so normalise before a join.
