What this column contains
The city or town the listing sits in, taken from its own address rather than from the search term you typed.
Where the value comes from
Split out of the formatted address. Because it comes from the listing, a business in a suburb reports the suburb even when it surfaced in a search for the metro.
Example value
İstanbul
What people use it for
- 01Assign territories and split a national export into per-rep lists.
- 02Compare category density across cities before choosing where to expand.
- 03Filter out the neighbouring towns that a metro-wide search inevitably pulls in.
- 04Group rows for city-level reporting without a geocoding step.
What it will not tell you
City names are not standardised across sources, and metro boundaries are a matter of opinion. Expect to normalise before joining against another dataset.
Questions about this field
- Does city match the city I searched for?
- Not always, and that is deliberate. A search covers an area, so listings from neighbouring towns appear with their own city — filter on this column to trim them.
- Is there a city-level page for my category?
- The scrape directory has programmatic pages for a large set of category and city pairs, which is the fastest way to see what a run would return.
