What this column contains
An Open Location Code string, encoding a small grid cell rather than a street address.
Where the value comes from
Read from the listing where Google publishes one; empty otherwise.
Example value
8G9G2X8P+4V
What people use it for
- 01Identify locations in areas where street addressing is sparse or informal.
- 02Give a driver or courier an unambiguous destination.
- 03Deduplicate listings whose text addresses are written differently but resolve to the same cell.
- 04Share a precise location in a message without a map link.
What it will not tell you
A Plus Code encodes an area, not a point, and the short form only resolves when paired with a locality. It complements the coordinate columns rather than replacing them.
Questions about this field
- Plus Code or latitude and longitude?
- Coordinates for anything computational. Plus Code is for handing a human an unambiguous location where an address would not help.
- Why do some Plus Codes include a city name?
- That is the short form, which needs the locality to resolve. The listing's published form is kept as-is.
